Publix | Orlando, FL

400 E. Central Blvd.

Welcome to the Lake Eola Publix!

Welcome back to The Retail Connection! We're in the Sunshine State today for a tour of one of Orlando's Publix locations. This one in particular is on the ground floor of the Paramount on Lake Eola apartment complex, and opened in September 2008. Inside, this store primarily has the "Classy Market 2.5" decor (officially called Bamboo), with some remnants of Classy Market 2.0 (Invigorate). Let's get out of the hot Florida sun and step inside!

Welcome to Publix!

Here's the Publix Pharmacy from two angles. The "awning" structure is original to Classy Market 1.0 and is very rare to see nowadays (thanks Sing Oil Blog!).

Past the pharmacy are dairy and beer. Wine is in the next aisle. This store has a pretty decent liquor selection.

Floral is in one of the aisles on the right side of the store.

Lunch meats extend to the back wall, with the two sides being divided by restrooms.

A little blurry in seafood, which is only a tiny counter next to the meat section.

Produce takes up the rest of the back right corner. I don't know if it's common for Publix, but I've never seen a grocery store with produce in the back before.

This store still uses the Classy Market 2.0 aisle markers.

And here's the Publix Deli, directly past produce.

Next is the bakery, established 1957. I didn't get any baked goods today, but they had a pretty nice selection and it all looked good.

A look at customer service in the front corner and also the express checkout lanes.

Looking the same as of 2008, too.

Still under construction in October 2007, the first time Google went through this area. Ground broke in April 2006.

Well, that's going to do it for this very special Publix tour! Thank you for reading The Retail Connection -- Where Shopping is a Pleasure!

  1. There are a lot of different eras of Publix going on in here! The entire store itself is Classy Market 2.5 decor, but the remodel itself was pretty cheap, and a lot of the elements from the store's original Classy Market 1.0 decor were left behind. The next remodel will probably wipe away most of those elements, as more recent remodels have been much more thorough. Very cool seeing this store, and hopefully you'll get to see some more Floridian grocery stores too!

    1. I had no idea what to expect going in! I'm not good with identifying Publix decor anyway, so I didn't know what this decor was until I got back home. I got pretty lucky!

I don't have any real plans to visit any other stores, but I will be sure to photograph them if I do! The vintage Publix in College Park may be in the works but I can't say that for certain right now.

  2. I love these "Classy Conglomeration" Publixes – they are probably some of my favorite to photograph because you never know what you will find inside! This particular store, #1131, opened in 2008 with the Sans Serif "Classy Market 1.0" or Kiwi interior. It likely received the light "Classy Market 2.5" or Bamboo remodel in 2011, based on the fact that it kept its original aisle signs (which were used with both Invigorate and SS CM 1.0, but differ from the ones used with the older Serif CM 1.0) and so much of the original crown molding. The orange deli sign is also indicative of one of these cheap 2011 remodels and is also fairly rare to see.

In my opinion, the coolest part of this store is how it has retained its original awning surrounding the pharmacy. These were only installed in new-build Serif and Sans Serif "Classy Market 1.0" stores and most have since been removed during later remodels. I can only think of one other store, #1128 in Port St. Lucie, which still has this feature intact but there may be one or two more.

As for baked goods, you should try some of the muffins or a slice of the carrot cake if you end up back in a Publix! It's also worth noting that every grocery store in the Southeast I can think of stocks cigarettes behind the customer service counter. This probably differs state-by-state similar to liquor laws. I know I was bewildered to see liquor on a regular grocery aisle in Washington State!

    1. Thank you again for helping me identify this decor mashup! It is quite a cool store now that I know more about it.

Now that I think about it, we have cigarettes/lottery by customer service in PA, too. I just never really notice it since I never buy cigarettes. The supermarkets around here that have liquor licenses usually put them in their own aisle.
