Rite Aid | Wilmington, DE

2096 Naamans Road

Welcome to the Foulk & Naamans Rite Aid!

It's time for our third and most extensive trip into Delaware yet! We'll be seeing stores in the Wilmington area over the next four weeks, starting here in the Foulk & Naamans Shopping Village to see a Rite Aid. It first opened in 1971 in the parking lot, and then moved to this spot in the later 70s when the Acme next door was demolished and rebuilt. The store recently received a new logo and the new facade during the remodel of the center, but it still looked like this before that. Let's get into our spaceships and travel to Customer World!

Cosmetics and personal care items are in the first aisle on the right side of the store. This decor is quite old, having been retired in 2012 in favor of the Wellness decor, but quite a few Rite Aid stores retain it.

Bath and shower items are in aisle 3. The wall signage in this decor certainly isn't modern, but these aisle markers look quite old-fashioned in comparison. Funny side note: these aisle markers appear on the Wikipedia page for euphemisms.

Flu-fighting with this store's crew takes place in the back left corner of the store. The P and A in pharmacist have certainly seen some better days.

Food, beverages, and paper products are in the last aisle.

A look at the quiet front end.

The interior decor was the same at this point as it is today, but the exterior remained as it had been since the 90s.

0.9 miles away: Walgreens of Naamans Road

This Walgreens further up Naamans Road opened around 2005, only a year before the chain made their first big expansion into the region through the acquisition of a local Delaware-based drug store chain called Happy Harry's.

That concludes this tour! While there isn't anything special about this Rite Aid in particular, other than its somewhat rare older decor, I wanted to visit it before the entire chain is out of business, since unfortunately that seems more and more likely with every closing round. This store is thankfully hanging on, though, and certainly wasn't desolate when I was here at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Next week, we'll be headed directly next door to see the supermarket that anchors this shopping center. Until then! The Retail Connection: With us, it's personal.

Rite Aid | Prospect Park, PA

762 Chester Pike

Welcome to the Prospect Park Rite Aid!

Thanks for stopping by The Retail Connection. I recently found some photos inside this Rite Aid store from August and figured they would make a good post. This is the Prospect Park location, which opened in 2010 as a relocation from their old store up the road in Norwood. There isn't a whole lot to see here, but let's take a look anyway!

The action way runs from the entrance doors (which are at an angle) to the pharmacy -- or "PHARMACIST" -- at the back of the store. As you can see, this store has the Genuine Well Being décor. It received the look along with a complete store reset in the summer of 2019. The checkout lanes (which are now directly behind where this photo was taken) were originally along the other side, where the beauty section is now located.

Food items are in the front left corner past the checkout. I'm a fan of this decor -- it's very simple in places like this, but it definitely looks nice. It's also a far cry from their wild and tacky décor of the late 90's

Aisle 10 is all seasonal items. As you can see from this aisle marker, wood grain is a major part of this décor package.

In this shot, we're looking down aisle 13. Trash bags are kind of out of place in this aisle. I also wonder how many people are still buying movies on DVD.

In the Wellbeing package, specific sections of the store are designated by these hanging patterned circles. This one, for Home Care, has a nice orange design.

The in-store GNC in the back also has one. I'm almost positive the original Rite Aid location didn't have any sort of GNC department, but I can't say for certain. I didn't go to that store much.

Our final interior shot shows the "Thank You" sign over the main doors.

You can see more of the store in this shot than you can in my own picture.

2012

This picture was taken in August 2012, about two years after the store first opened. At this point, it still used the Rite Aid "shield" logo, as opposed to the new mortar and pestle icon.

2007

Back in 2007, this property was the site of an abandoned Texaco gas station/car wash and battery store, the latter of which was further up and not visible here. There was a "leased" sign at the street corner, meaning Rite Aid must have been working on opening here even then.

0.2 miles away: CVS of Prospect Park

Only three buildings separate the Rite Aid from this CVS Pharmacy, located at the top of the steep hill that is this section of Chester Pike. This store opened around 2001 on the site of a local restaurant called Hennessy's. This store has the latest remodel inside.

Thanks for checking out this quick post! I wasn't expecting to do this, but I found these photos and thought it would be best to just get them out there. That's going to do it for today's edition of The Retail Connection: With us, it's personal.
