Welcome to the North Wildwood Acme!
Thanks for shopping with The Retail Connection once again! For today's post, we'll be taking a tour of this shore Acme in North Wildwood. This store opened on November 11, 2015, in a former SuperFresh. The building dates back to the 70's when it was an A&P. I was in a rush to get in and out of this store, so unfortunately some of the pictures are a little shaky. I did increase the sharpness to make them a little clearer. Anyway, let's get right into this tour!
As per usual, the fresh produce market is the first department you see in the store. This Acme has the Quality Built décor, which replaced A&P's "Fresh 2.0" interior look from the SuperFresh era.
The corner deli is next, sort of in the corner. You'll notice throughout this tour that there were only a few employees in the store. I was also the only customer in the entire store. I guess 8pm on a Saturday night in April isn't exactly their peak business time.
Fresh bakery and "grab and go" foods are next. It looks like Acme needs to restock its fresh donuts and pastries.
The fresh seafood and meat departments are along the back wall, as are the packaged Lancaster brand meats. This is one of the images I had to edit. I think it turned out okay.
Here's a look down aisle 6, which is mostly canned foods. Like I said in the Avalon post, Acme stores that are down the Jersey Shore usually have beach items on top of shelves or displays to save space. Here, we see beach chairs right next to Campbell's soup.
The "farm fresh" section is along part of the left wall. I hesitate to call this the dairy section, because it also contains lunch meat and hot dogs.
The freezers continue into aisle 15, which is only half an aisle. This section does not extend the entire length of the store, which makes me think it was either an addition or not originally part of the sales floor.
I find it kind of funny how the "welcome" and "thank you" signs are pretty much right next to each other. This is a mansard roof-style A&P, so it only has one foyer. Purpose-built Acme stores usually have two, so these signs can be more spaced out.

The original SuperFresh
The original SuperFresh was damaged in a fire on December 26, 2004. Here are some photos I found from the Wildwood Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association website, which show the store before it was remodeled. As you can see, it was pretty much just a mansard roof A&P with a new façade tacked on.

2022
This photo was taken in October 2015, shortly before SuperFresh's closure. Acme didn't make many exterior changes, other than of course swapping out the logos and also removing SuperFresh's exterior department signage.
Thanks again for shopping with The Retail Connection! This is my local shore Acme, so I'm glad I was able to put it up on the blog. I know these photos aren't great, but they're better than they would be if I took them during the summertime when this store is jam-packed with shoppers. Anyway, there's more where that came from! Thanks for reading! Sincerely, The Retail Connection!
