Save A Lot | Brookhaven, PA

3520 Edgmont Ave

Welcome to the Brookhaven Save A Lot!

Welcome again to The Retail Connection! In this post, we'll be taking a tour of the Save A Lot in Brookhaven, co-anchoring the Brookhaven Shopping Center with a Pep Boys. This store opened sometime in the early 2000's in a former Food Fair/Pantry Pride supermarket. It recently got the new logo, and, more importantly, new interior décor! Let's check it out.

The right side of the store is lined with long coffin cases and features the produce, seafood, and deli meats. Like Aldi (and most discount stores), Save A Lot locations don't have full-service departments.

More deli meats and fresh dairy line the back wall.

And here's a closer look at the dairy department. Apparently, Save A Lot considers Pringles to be dairy items. Maybe it's the cheddar cheese flavoring.

In this shot, we get a good look at the entire back wall, with all of the de facto "service departments".

The refrigerators with milk & juice and frozen favorites are along the left wall, with bakery products in the aisle across.

I like the aisle markers used in this décor package. I'm not sure what it is about it, but this photo gives me older vibes for some reason. It just doesn't seem as modern as the rest of the store.

And here we see the checkouts and "thanks for shopping" sign. Only one checkout lane was open when I was there, and seemingly everyone in the entire store was waiting in line. Granted, there were probably only about five people in here.

I'd guess that this store looked exactly the same from when it first opened around 2003 to when it was recently remodeled.

0.7 miles away: Aldi of Brookhaven

Further up Edgmont Avenue in the Cambridge Square Shopping Center is the Brookhaven Aldi, which opened in 2017 in half of a former GIANT grocery store which relocated to a much larger location across the street in 2016.

Thanks for stopping into The Retail Connection again! I hope to see you again soon. For now, this has been The Retail Connection: Like, a lot of retail.

  1. It's not a super fancy look, but the new decor does make the store feel a little bit nicer (although the age of the building does becomes apparent in places, like you mention around the front end). I have seen a slightly upgraded version of this decor where Save A Lot installs a "lit trellis" (I don't know what it's actually called) over produce (see here: https://cdn.winsightmedia.com/platform/files/public/2021-06/background/800x420/sal-produce-4_1623415787.jpg?VersionId=DgZVu7YPuAv3pIgQ.GapLUM5BAyuBaTR ). That wasn't installed here, but I've seen it a number of times at the remodeled Save A Lot stores by me, and it makes the produce department feel a little bit classier.

    1. That look certainly does make it a little classier. It reminds me of the track lighting used at Lidl. And, yes, although the new décor isn't a huge departure from what they used before, it definitely is a touch nicer. I think the ceiling and flooring are the most aged parts of the store, but it overall has kind of a dated vibe even with the modern design. They were also playing 80's music when I was in there, which didn't really help. I guess it all makes sense, considering this building has been operating since the early 50's.
